The Institute Of Work - Environment

Call this an office?

β€œI would prefer not to,” Bartleby says, refusing work in Herman Melville’s famous short story Bartleby the Scrivener. Bartleby will not leave the office. Brits are refusing to show up in the first place.

Almost a quarter (23%) have turned down a job because they didn’t like the office environment, according to a recent poll from office developer Castleforge. Gen Z were more strident – 32% of 18 – 24-year-olds took one look and turned their backs.

What were they missing? Amenities come top of the list: restaurants, bars and gyms nearby are the most important factors for 51%, while slightly fewer prioritise a cafΓ© and a shower in the workplace. People want to come in, like to come in and work better when they’re in (41% are more productive, rising to 55% with Gen Z).

But a desire for creature comforts suggest they need a home away from home too, in order to flourish.

Our shared working space in the heart of Canary Wharf is beautiful and offers everything on your doorstep. The Wharf has long shaken off its Banking/Corporate only image although there are still some great investment houses to tap into.

There is an abundance of natural wildlife, the Eden Dock pontoon and Jubilee Park as well as plenty of Street Art and sectors such as Fin Tech, Level 39 IncubatorBlue Chip, Retail, Design & Creative Collaboration, Life Sciences, Web & Cyber Security Technologies in addition to an Urban Film Set!
